Make Pancakes for 3/8 Pancake Day

Pancakes for "Pancake Day"-"Shrove Tuesday"
What makes today special? Yep! You may guess it is the International Women’s day, that’s absolutely rihgt!~ But also, Today is thePancake Day in the UK, which is also called Shrove Tuesday. It is a fun festival, because it is one day of the year when almost everyone eats a pancake. On that day it is traditional to eat pancakes, toss pancakes and take part in pancake races.

The origins of eating pancakes arose from Christians who wanted to use up all the rich foods in their cupboards before Lent (Easter- a festival celebrating the beginning of Christianity). During Lent, eggs, sugar and butter were not allowed so these ingredients were used to make pancakes. For most people today, it's not a religious festival, and people just enjoy eating lots of pancakes and having fun.

A traditional English pancake is very thin and is served immediately from the frying pan. The traditional way of serving pancake in the UK is sprinkle Caster sugar and Fresh Lemon Juice on the top of the pancake, and then fold or roll it up to eat. But now British actually enjoy a variety of pancake fillings, i.e Strawberry, Honey, Banana, Chocolate sauce, cheese, etc…

So, for this week’s post, I am going to make a Pancake for you. It is really simple!
Only 3 basic ingredients: Milk, Eggs, and Flour
and it just like to cook a Chinese omelet so I named it as western Chinese omelet or sweet Chinese omelet.

Servings: 4-5 /Prepare Time: 10 min /Cooking Time:5 min

Directions:

1. Whisk 100g Plain Flour (sifted), 2 Eggs together in a large bowl

2. Gradually add 200ml Milk into the Batter and whisk hard. (don't worry about any lumps as they will eventually disappear as you whisk) whisk until the batter getting Smooth.

3. Add 2 table spoon of Oil into the mixture and whisk until it is Smooth and Runny. Now you are ready to cook Your Pancakes.
4. Drizzle and Heat oil into a frying pan, then Ladle the pancake mixture and pour into the pan with Medium heat. Allow the mixture to coat the pan and fry the pancake for 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden. (Flip the pancake over with a pan slice or palette knife - the other side will need a few seconds only - then simply slide it out of the pan onto a plate.)Repeat to make further pancakes
5. To Serve, Traditionally, sprinkle each pancake with freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice and Caster Sugar, Fold in Half, then in half again to form triangles, or else simply Roll them up. Serve sprinkled with a little more sugar and lemon juice and extra sections of lemon.
Serve it With Sugar, Lemon Juice, Strawberry, Cream, Cheese...

Ingredients:

Pancake
Salt (盐)a pinch

  1. Happy Pancake Day! It seems British style pancake is different from American style. Yours reminds me of Crepe.
